Opposites and differences down under

Whilst some of these could be considered obvious we thought them worthy of comment.

They say that New Zealand is like the UK in the 1950s…….

The sun rises in the east, and then goes anticlockwise, through north, and sets in the west.

The further north you travel, the warmer the weather is.

Water goes down the plughole spinning anticlockwise rather than clockwise!

The waitress, once the other tables had left, said she was going to pack down the tables, rather than pack/tidy up.

We have asked for the bill a few times before realising it is just not done! Everyone goes up and pays at the end. It can create a huge tailback!

At only a couple of the decent restaurants have we been offered to taste the wine.

All restaurants give you a bottle of ice cold water and are constantly topping it up if you finish it or if it gets warm.

Most main or starter dishes come with plenty of veggies and no carbs…… so healthy! At home you normally have to add veggies!

In no restaurant, however posh, has a waiter put the napkin on our laps.

They still use newspaper for their fish and chips.

They still give out carrier bags free at the till.

When they write words on the road they are in the wrong order…….

Everyone talks about going tramping…… they mean walking.

In all the hotels that we have stayed only three have given us a key card, the rest are still using real keys.
